Cash Flow Budgeting
Home » Cash Flow Budgeting
Cash flow budgeting forecasts when money will come into and go out of a business. Its main functions include:
- Estimating cash coming in: Forecast customer payments, loans, and other receipts.
- Planning cash going out: Schedule payroll, rent, inventory purchases, loan payments, taxes, and other expenses.
- Identifying shortfalls: Spot periods when the business may lack enough cash to pay its bills.
- Planning for surpluses: Show when cash may be available for savings, debt repayment, or investment.
- Setting spending priorities: Help managers decide which purchases can be made and when.
- Managing working capital: Coordinate customer collections, supplier payments, and inventory needs.
- Comparing forecasts with results: Update the budget as actual payments and expenses become known.
The key purpose is to make sure the business has enough cash when payments are due, even during periods when sales or profits look strong.
