Business Office Administration

Business administration keeps an organization’s day-to-day work coordinated and running smoothly. Its functions commonly include:

  • Planning: Setting goals, budgets, schedules, and procedures.
  • Organizing: Assigning responsibilities and coordinating work across departments.
  • Staff support: Helping with hiring, onboarding, records, and employee policies.
  • Financial oversight: Monitoring expenses, payments, cash flow, and reports.
  • Office operations: Managing records, supplies, equipment, and administrative systems.
  • Compliance: Maintaining required documents and helping the business follow applicable rules.
  • Communication: Sharing information among employees, managers, customers, and vendors.
  • Performance monitoring: Reviewing results, identifying problems, and improving processes.

In a small business, one administrator may handle many of these functions. In a larger business, they are usually divided among specialized teams.
